Illustration Friday: Sprout

this week's illustration is an homage to the classic horror comics such as Tales from the Crypt and Vault of Horror that spawned the dreaded CCA (comics code authority). the CCA was founded in 1954 in responce to public concern over graphic violence, sexual innuendo and gore in comic books. however, the majority of what was considered inappropriate at the time is, by today's standard, relatively tame.

in the 1960s the Underground Comic scene emerged with artists creating comics that delved into subject matter explicitly banned by the Code. however, these comics were distributed largely through unconventional channels, such as head shops, making CCA approval unnecessary for their success.

in case you haven't noticed i've included a parody of their logo on this and all my previous comic cover illustrations in its traditional location in the upper right-hand corner. this illustration was created entirely in Adobe Illustrator exclusively for this IF challenge. since no one commented last week there's no one to thank. still, have a groovy week and enjoy the show.

Nice. I would have been extra cool if you 'distressed' the cover like Les Mclane did with his Jonny Crossbones ( http://www.jonnycrossbones.com/process/02.htm)

I had sort of the same idea of an EC Comics-style work, but you took it that one step further that makes it really stand out.
